If you told me I would be excited about a couch slipcover ten years ago, I would have probably rolled my eyes. In our house, slipcovers are a necessity, not a luxury, after all. Imagine the aftermath of seven (often more) humans, seven (soon to be eight) cats, three dogs, and whatever else happens to wander into the mix. *Mess* doesn’t even begin to cover it, really. It’s just a jumble of chaotic clutter no matter which way you slice it. So basically, if it’s not washable, I’m not interested.

I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve sat in something unidentifiable and suspiciously sticky. Or, the number of furniture casualties due to our cats’ claws despite having multiple areas for them to scratch away to their paws’ delight. Like, c’mon man!

Slipcovers have always come and gone in our house. Typically lasting for a season or two before needing replaced. Yes, I think it’s important to take care of our space — respecting the sacred space that is home is vital But, the reality is life is messy and shit’s going to happen, you know?
Almost eight years ago, we bought a slip-covered sectional from Pottery Barn. At the time, I thought our slipcover problems were over! After all, Pottery Barn knows what’s up, right? While the couch has held up incredibly well, the slipcovers didn’t stand a chance against our crew. Totally disappointing.

That’s when I began the search for slipcovers made specifically for top-brand furniture and stumbled upon Comfort Works. It didn’t take long for me to purchase a supposedly pet-and-mess-proof cover in signature velvet. Our Autistic kiddo *loves* the feel and texture of velvet so I was excited to not only be covering our destruction problem but also providing a sensory-friendly place for our kiddos.

Was I nervous to put more money into slipcovers after years of disappointment?
You bet. But, I gave it a shot and am now four covers in with Comfort Works. Yes, four — not because they’re not lasting or holding up — but because they have been the only washable covers that stand up to our cats’ claws and our human muck AND my love for updating/refreshing spaces.

Comfort Works was gracious enough to gift me a new cover for a refresh in caramel. I love the way it has warmed the space and everyone (critters included) adore the feel of the fabric. While we always choose the signature velvet for our own needs, the color and fabric options are mind-blowing! They also provide fabric swatches and samples so you can be confident in your selection.

Are we still an absolute cluster over here? Obviously. Do I think we will remain a complete and utter disaster when it comes down to it? Absolutely. But, I never give our choice in Comfort Works a second thought. Thanks to them, we actually have one area that looks brand new, always (look at us, being tricky!).
