Old frames are hard to pass up. Odds are, I will never turn down a pile of vintage wood frames. It's one of those things that you can always use for something. Though sometimes (often, really) they are pretty beat up/bent out of shape and they don't necessarily fit the look I'm trying to achieve. The same goes for new frames! I'll check out the clearance frame section for cheap ornate pieces but they are usually in a color or material that isn't really my style. What's a ... VIEW POST

Antiqued Gold Frame Made Easy

Adding Bead Board Accent Walls`
One of the things that I've been trying to do in our home is to add vintage touches that make our home feel less like a new build and more like a 150 year old beauty. We lived in a home built in 1890 for several years that I absolutely loved - so I'm using her as a bit of inspiration. There was a small space off the side of the house that was used as a three season porch that had floor to ceiling bead board walls. So, we decided to take the old school vibe of that space and reinvent it for our ... VIEW POST

Vintage Loveseat Deconstruct Project
There's nothing like a great furniture find (the older and cheaper the better)! Now, I've attempted a couple reupholstery/furniture refresh projects that have been absolute fails. After a chalk-paint-gone-bad and a traditional-upholstery-gone-awry, I was put out and frustrated. I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars getting a professional to fix my Marketplace bargain finds -- what's the point in that? I came across an antique sofa deconstruct from my friend Mercedes over at ... VIEW POST

No Sew Curtain DIY
There are a few things that I change like underwear. One of them -- other than underwear -- is curtains. At least, I would *like* to change them often. The problem is that curtains can be spendy -- to say the least. Not to mention the time it takes to browse to find the right set that won't break the bank. But, it's amazing how a new set of curtains can change a space in no time with minimal effort. So, I was thrilled when a dear Instagram friend shared her curtain hack with me and I hope that ... How To Make A Floating Ghost
I have a lot of fun decorating for the holidays. Halloween and Christmas are my favorites. All of my kiddos enjoy "helping," too. Monster number one is always thinking of more ways to heighten the spooky factor and is never satisfied! Honestly, he wants to turn this place into a replica of The Haunted Mansion and I'm totally here for it! While I'm always on the lookout for fun additions to our seasonal cache, it's a huge win if I can create pieces from items that I have lying around the house. ... VIEW POST

✨️✨️ Slipcover refresh from @comfortworks ✨️✨️
🌙 Anyone else use slipcovers to reign in on the domestic chaos that is having 5 kids, 7 cats, 3 dogs, and a Derek?? 🤣 I`ve been supporting Comfort Works for years as their covers are the only I`ve come across thay actually stand up to our goblin lifestyle 🥂 This is the signature velvet in caramel -- pet/claw friendly - and our sensory sensitive kiddos love the texture/feel of the fabric. 🌙

Why I feel closer than ever to Jesus as a practicing Pagan and former Christian.
Spirituality, religion, faith — all incredibly relevant and powerful to the human experience. Mostly, I believe, because humans are fragile and beautifully imaginative. We want to know why, how, and where we came from…the reason for our existence. We are a naturally curious and innovative species and generally uncomfortable with the unknown. So, we create stories. Stories that provide us with the answers we seek and the push to live without that nagging fear of the unknown…tugging at our hearts and souls.
At its best, faith inspires and lifts us to be better — to love and give more. At its worst, it is weaponized to control, dominate, and conquer.
Growing up in the church ultimately showed me that much of what folks consider “good Christianity” is performative. Gathered together in a vaulted sanctuary, light pouring through stained glass windows — we sing praises, arms raised. We listen to the message of another human, trying to make sense of the world. We feel better by doing this…somehow emboldened that we are doing life right — that when we inevitably die, we will achieve spiritual immortality. Meanwhile, children go hungry, the homeless are reviled, the poor suffer, the immigrant is attacked, trans folks are vilified, bombs are dropped, the Earth is destroyed -- all while we sing Glory to God, drop $20 in a plate, and sip coffee in a wooden pew.
And we are pushed to share the good news — desperate for the world to know that Jesus loves you!! He died for you! He was sacrificed so that the world would know the truth.
The truth? The truth is that Jesus was arrested, tortured, and crucified because he was a threat to the establishment — to religious leaders and the government who feared his message would turn the people against them and their lust for power. Jesus opened minds that were shuttered, shattered the status quo, boldly broke religious rules, and challenged religious authorities that were more concerned with control & law than justice and care for the oppressed.
Justice and care for the oppressed. Radical, much?
